Simple black lines and naive imagery now transcend the realms of childish craft into impressive graphic designs relative to fashion and inferiors
By Guy Little
Jon Burgerman, of Burgerplex Ltd. England, fabricates and relays a sense of humour and childlike wonder through his designs – marking a parallel to the simplicity of images seen in ordinary children’s colouring books. Printed T’s, stationery and even signature-printed footwear - depicting simple line-drawings of animated, quaint caricatures - are right-up any urban-junkie’s alley. One of Burgerman’s latest design innovations, ‘Colour In Burger Wallpaper’ may look like something you would hang in a modern children’s nursery, however, it requires your own personal design stamp. Colouring in the images presented on the wallpaper (below) makes for a fun piece of installation art – creating a personal and contemporary feel for an interior space. ‘Colour In Burger Wallpaper’ retails for £35, with the signature design repeating every 52cm. Use marker pens, felt tips or paint to add colours of your choice. Ordering may be done online from http://burgerplex.com
Moving toward fashion - fun and frisky ballet pumps, designed by Acrylicana (see below), make for an ultra comfy option in designer footwear. In the same wave as Burgerplex’s designs, Acrylicana’s simple hand painted graphics translate beautifully onto footwear. Whilst they cannot be coloured in, as in the wallpaper by Burgerplex, the charm of a children’s colouring-in book still resonates from the creation. Ordering may be done online at www.etsy.com
